Heavy Rain and Floods in 11 Afghan Provinces Claim 12 Lives

The National Disaster Preparedness Authority, operating under the Taliban administration, has reported that severe rainfall, snowfall, and flooding over the past three days have resulted in at least 12 deaths and 11 injuries. These natural events have affected 11 provinces across the country. According to the authority, Kapisa, Parwan, Daikundi, Uruzgan, Kandahar, Helmand, Badghis, Faryab, Badakhshan, Herat, and Farah are among the most heavily impacted areas, where residents are facing extensive damage. Reports indicate that 274 homes have been completely destroyed, while 1,558 others have suffered partial damage, highlighting the urgent need for shelter and humanitarian aid for the affected families. Additionally, eight mosques, 209 kilometers of roads, and numerous shops have been damaged, and around 1,200 livestock have perished. Despite the recurrence of such disasters during cold and rainy seasons, there is an expectation that the Taliban administration will strengthen preventive measures and provide prompt and transparent assistance to those affected—a demand consistently voiced by civil society organizations and local residents.
